Spring has Sprung! Well, Sort of.
Wow! It's been such a long time since I last published a post under my style section that I had to do a double take! Spring officially started on the 20th and San Francisco welcomed her with heavy rain. I'm currently on spring break from school, so I'm taking the extra time on my hands to get my life in order.
In addition to the season change, a lot of changes have recently developed in my personal life. Lately, I have been discussing how this is a big year for me, and I really mean it. The New Year started off wonderfully in New York, and although I had food poisoning on my birthday (March 6th), I felt a magical energy within my core regardless as I entered my 28th year.
To recap several changes that have occurred recently: Mario and I adopted a puppy, I chopped off my mermaid waves into a short bob, and I found a new filter to edit my photos with on VSCO. Today, the newest development I am announcing is that I took a leap of faith by submitting my resignation notice to my employer last Friday. Leaving my current job will allow me to focus on school and further pursue blogging and modeling. In order to pay my bills, and until my artistic work becomes more consistent, I decided to work a casual gig where I can make my own hours. I plan to graduate with my Bachelor's in the fall semester and my goal is to pursue blogging and modeling full-time by the end of the year! I'm going to be 30 in two years, and I have been telling myself it's now or never! As you can imagine, it's a big deal and I'm so excited to see how the rest of the year will unfold. I am not naive, and I know it won't always be easy, but I'm beyond ready to give this industry all I've got and I truly have faith in my abilities.
I expressed my entrepreneurial desires to a teacher and fellow classmates during a class discussion and they disagreed that it was a sustainable path to take as a Humanitarian Major which inspired me to put this poem together:
I am not afraid
I am not afraid of being my own person, thinking for myself, and finding my own way
I am not afraid of not having all the answers or a concrete plan because I know what it's like to have an ideal image of my future ripped from beneath my feet
I've had my expectations crumble, but with that destruction, I've rebuilt and further stumbled upon unimaginable opportunities that have allowed me to have new dreams
I am not afraid of the limitations others impose upon me, or people who tell me I cannot follow the aspirations I am sure of
In a world where I am constantly being told "No!" I should be afraid and more likely to be kept at their lower standards, but instead I rise
I have had dreams turn into nightmares and daydreams transform into reality
Either way, I am prepared
I am not afraid and therefore I persevere
It is very powerful to have a room full of people disagree with your opinion. I am so proud that I stood my ground while I was surrounded by adversity. This experience showed me how strong-willed and confident I have become. I have learned that we create our own happiness and following our intuition is a big part of it. Each individual has the ability to create their unique path. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who disagrees because what is right for you is not necessarily right for them. After this frustrating experience, I expressed my feelings on Insta-stories and I got so many loving messages from my viewers. You are on the other end of the spectrum and see another side of me daily that my classmates and professors do not. I can't do it without you and I just wanted to thank you again for the extensive love and encouragement during my venting session!
On a Lighter Note: Outfit Details
Now that we are all caught up with these big changes, we can get into the outfit details! I wanted to kick off my first style post of the season with a floral romper I received from a recent collaboration with ShopTobi. (ad) San Franciscans are big on neutrals and I feel this dark floral number is an easy transition from winter to spring style. Although it is technically spring, it's raining like crazy, so I'm not completely ready to bust out an exuberant spring palette.
Personally, I don't wear a lot of prints, but I love floral because it's classic and feminine. Some people feel that floral can appear matronly, but I actually feel that it's rather sultry. Red roses are my favorite flower so it was a natural addition to my spring 2018 wardrobe.
I'm a Hat Person Now!
This year, I also decided to become a hat person. (So many changes, lol.) Two months before I cut off my long locks, I convinced myself to start collecting hats and actually wear them. I have always liked hats, but often felt like they drew too much attention to me. (I'm sure it's all in my head.) Although I'm a style blogger and can appear extroverted online, I'm actually an introverted person and don't like to draw extra attention to myself in real life. However, I decided to get over my fear of standing out because I think hats are a great accessory to uplift an outfit or cover up second day hair.
I had been contemplating over this newsboy cap from a local boutique for a while. It was originally $40.00, but went on sale for about $20.00 and I wanted to wait and see if I could find a less expensive one somewhere else. I searched online, but no luck. After trying it on 100 times, I finally decided to pull the trigger. I love the color and fabric, and I'm so happy I added it to my hat stash! Coincidentally, my mom purchased the same one in green!
Thank you for catching up with me! I hope you are as excited for the big news as I am! It definitely wont be another 7 months until I publish a new style post. What do you want to see next?
