Although I'm a city girl, hiking is one of my favorite things to do. Did you know there are a few "secret trails" in San Francisco? I've discovered a few which are more hidden and just as beautiful, such as Mount Davidson.
This shoot was inspired after a day shopping for Mario. We are slowly building up his wardrobe and the first step we've taken is to add fashion-forward staple pieces, of quality.
A shopping mood struck a few weeks back, so we met downtown and spent the evening primarily at H&M and Zumiez. We found a pair of sleek black joggers (not photographed, but link provided), and a gray Terry Cloth hoodie, by Ninth Hall, among other tops. He is a personal trainer so his day-to-day style is more casual. The pieces he took home are transitional and can go with denim equally as well as workout pants- which is ideal. Beneath the sleeveless sweatshirt he layered an additional black t-shirt and wore black jeans from Uniqlo. The jeans stretched out quite a bit, so I would recommend going a size down. To complete this look he layered a plaid, Derby of San Francisco, bomber jacket over his sleeveless hoodie. We found this coat at Wasteland on Haight and later learned that it was a unique and rare piece!
At first, I struggled to think of a look that would match his well. I have lots of plaid, but felt it would be overkill, yet still wanted something complementary. Last minute, I remembered I had a fitted, BCBG t-shirt dress tucked away. My dress is a similar color to his hoodie and the fabrics are both plush. Our looks meshed nicely without being too matchy-matchy. About five years ago I used to primarily wear dresses like this with blazers in order to make it more appropriate for work, but decided to style it casually with an over sized cardigan this time. T-shirt dresses are timeless pieces that truly won't go out of style. They can be dressed up and down simply by changing the jacket and shoes. Since my over sized cardigan, dress, and boots were a few years old, I updated the look with a trendy choker. I decided on flat leather boots to keep the look hikeable and sharp.
We wanted to keep the vibe casual and edgy for the outdoor scenery. His bold coat and my choker aided in spicing up this neutral look. Comfort, cuteness, and versatility are the most important factors to me while shopping for every day clothing. Both Mario's hoodie and my fitted dress evoke a similar feel, but are unique fabrics which is why they compliment each other so well. Each piece is timeless and can be dressed up and down by changing certain accessories. Versatile pieces make it easy to leave the house in a rush while still feeling effortlessly put together.
