I met John while I worked in the Men's department at Bloomingdale's. He worked in the alterations department which neighbored the fitting room area on my floor, so we saw each other all the time. We became friendly one day when I surprised him when I referred to him by first name. We stayed in touch ever since and enjoyed small talk during and after our shifts.
One day he was wearing an interesting jacket and I complemented him. It was more unique than other styles I had seen in the past which is when he told me he made it himself and that he had aspirations to create his own line that would consist of unisex outerwear. I was impressed!
At the time I just became committed to blogging and thought of doing a collaboration together. Initially, I didn't have anything specific in mind, but wanted to create something I couldn't find in stores. Pants in general are hard for me because I have a long torso and short legs. When I go pant shopping the proportions are always off for me, so my wheels began to turn and revolved around a look involving a complementary top and bottom.
We met up one day in Berkeley for lunch and went fabric shopping. I started to think that maybe I should get some high waisted pants made and pictured a fun floral pattern, but didn't fall in love with any fabric in that style. Then I came across this grayish brown plaid print and thought I could design more of a business casual look. We found this silk-like fabric for a shirt and changed the idea a few times. We finally settled on a basic crop tank because I know it's versatile and that I'll wear it all the time
