The leaves are transitioning and it's time for our wardrobe to adjust too. It's officially fall and in honor of the season change, I wanted to round up some of my favorite trends and explain why I love these classic styles. When it comes to clothing, I believe in long-term investment items and I feel these are trends that can be recycled throughout the years without going out of style. I have included several links throughout this post so you can shop similar styles! If any item is purchased through these links I do earn a small commission. (Ad)
Plaid is a print that epitomizes the fall season for me. My favorite plaid color combination is red and black, but given it’s popularity it comes in variety of color combinations. My top item choices to wear in this print are button downs, blazers, and recently pants. Plaid pieces are often made out of warmer fabrics which makes them a great layering piece for the cooling season.
2. Chunky Cream Knits
I love sweaters in all colors and shapes, but chunky cream knits are my ideal for fall! After months of shorts, tanks, and swimsuits, it’s almost refreshing to put a sweater on. I love cream because it's chic and represents a new time of the year. For the next six months, we typically tuck away our crisp white pieces and trade them in for our off-white options. I love pairing chunky cream knits with denim and layering them under coats or over button downs.
Leather is available in all forms which makes it an ideal piece to add to your fall wardrobe. It doesn’t have to be “real” leather either. Most of the “leather” pieces I own are faux leather which is often less expensive and more water resistant. Similarly to plaid fabrics and knits, leather or pleather are great for insulating warmth and layering. In addition, this fabric mixes and matches easily for many different occasions.
Booties are literally my favorite kind of shoe! They are available in many different heights and match with a plethora of bottoms such as skirts, leggings, jeans, and even dresses. I would say the ideal heel height for an everyday bootie is between 2-3 inches because it can be worn for longer periods of time while attaining a decent comfort level. This height is also easy to dress up or down for optimal use.
5. Animal Print
To me, animal print is comparable to a neutral, especially prints like leopard, cheetah, and snakeskin that can be worn year round. However, I feel this trend is brought to the next level during the fall season due to the color patters they are most popular in; black, brown, rust, and forest green. So far this fall, I've seen animal print in every way imaginable from dresses, skirts, pants, shoes, purses, and more. Animal print is an edgy, yet classy, concept to incorporate into your fall layers.
6. Unique Jackets
Last, but certainly not least are unique jackets! I decided to step up my coat game last year and I'm beyond excited to share all the new pieces I've added this year! Although the weather in San Francisco fluctuates quite a bit throughout the day, a coat is often needed in the mornings and evenings regardless of the season. Fun coats are essential to spruce up a basic outfit and to keep the outer layer of your everyday essentials interesting.
I hope you enjoyed learning about the 6 fall trends I can't live without! If you could add anything else to this list what would it be?!
